Childhood vaccines and other injections could soon be delivered painlessly, with anew laser device developed by an Australian company.

Biotech group Norwood Abbey has just received US Food and Drug Administration approvalto market a hand-held laser that allows anaesthetic to seep through the skin into thebody.

The low-power laser painlessly removes the outer layer of the skin so a local anestheticcream can take effect within minutes of an injection.
