Ford says pay-on-production saved little.(News)

Ford has all but given up hope for its pay-on-production scheme with its suppliers. There is no chance the ambitious plan will be used in North America, and Ford is re-evaluating its worth in Europe, a top executive said.

The plan involves paying suppliers of manufacturing and other major equipment on a per-unit production basis, rather than paying up front. The supplier then would own the equipment but have to be responsible for a large initial investment.
