SHORT ESCAPES

Qantas Holidays have complied a guide for those looking for a short getaway to a destination
in Australia or the South Pacific.

Some of the available trips include Adelaide from $102 per person including two nights
in the Hotel Adelaide International, breakfast, a drink voucher and late check-out.

The two night Port Douglas offer is from $210 per person, staying at Radisson Treetops
Resort, a room upgrade, sparkling wine and a one-hour massage.

For $144 you can spend two nights at the Quality Inn Downtown in Canberra including
continental breakfast, wine on arrival, room upgrade and late check-out.

International destinations include New Zealand, Fiji and Vanuatu.

TATTOO

Since 1950 the Edinburgh Tattoo has been one of the major tourist attractions of the
British summer.

The presentation of military music, history and Scottish pageantry will take place
from August 4-26.

Performances take place at 9pm Monday to Friday and at 7.30pm and 10.30pm on Saturdays.

A firework spectacular follows the 10.30 show.

Tickets for the Tattoo can be bought through Keith Prowse Australia for $84. Tickets
for the Saturday late show are $92.

For those in need of a short break to a country retreat Sunlover Holidays is offering

MARBLES

The Devil's Marbles and Pebbles have put Tennant Creek on the tourist map.

The Marbles, one hour south of Tennant Creek, are accessible from the Sturt Highway
via a self-guided walking trail.

The trail features signs explaining the current geological processes of the site as
well as how the Devil's Marbles were formed.

Ten kilometres north of Tennant Creek are the lesser known Devil's Pebbles, an Aboriginal
women's dreaming site.

The Pebbles are accessible from the Sturt Highway via a dirt road.

The Tennant Creek Cup will take place on May 13, adding to the Northern Territory experience.

CUP

The Melbourne Cup may be months away but those in-the-know are already planning their trip.

BATTLEFIELDS

For those interested in the American Civil War the Experts 40th Tour of American Civil
War Battlefields will provide the chance to visit the most famous historic sites.

The tour will be led by Civil War historian Ken Hayes and will travel through areas
including New York, Niagara Falls, Gettysburg, Harper's Ferry, and Williamsburg before
ending in Washington.

Some sites of the four-year war that will be visited include the Sharpsburg battlefields,
the Gettysburg Cemetery, the Hall of Valour Civil War Museum at Newmarket and Ford's Theatre
where President Lincoln was assassinated.

The 18-day trip leaves Australia on September 18.

ITALIAN LAKES

Throughout May, August and September seven-day tours of the gardens and villas of the
Italian Lakes district will be available through the Travel Associates.

The tour will feature four nights in the city of Lake Como and two nights on the shores
