The race problem persists

Political conservatives continually oppose race-conscious policies on the grounds that they divide the nation along racial lines. They seem to believe that the nation's race problem would heal itself if the government would only stop interfering.

The problem with this position is that it fails to acknowledge that the race problem was created by whites. Blacks, Latinos, Asians and Native Americans are the victims of this racial discrimination. Implicit in the conservative attitude is that any policies to prevent whites from continuing their racial antagonism will only infuriate them and prolong the problem.
