M2 PRESSWIRE-5 December 2000-KASTEN CHASE: U.S. Internal Revenue Service selects Kasten Chase RASP Secure Access (C)1994-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
RDATE:05122000
RESTON, VIRGINIA -- Kasten Chase (TSE:KCA), a leading provider of high-assurance data security systems, today confirmed that the U.S. Government's Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has implemented RASP Secure Access.
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is responsible for determining, assessing and collecting internal revenue consisting of personal and corporate income taxes, excise, estate, and gift taxes as well as employment taxes for the national Social Security system in the United States.
The Bureau of Internal Revenue was established on July 1, 1862 to collect new income taxes, money which was used to pay for the Civil War. Although the income tax was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in 1895, the national income tax was reinstated in 1913. The Bureau of Internal Revenue was responsible for enforcement of the Prohibition amendment in the 1920's, then was reorganized in 1953 and renamed the Internal Revenue Service. It remains the largest of Treasury's bureaus.
"Clearly, RASP Secure Access is rapidly being embraced by key U.S. Government agencies and departments," commented Jim Davies, president and chief operating officer at Kasten Chase. "In addition to confirming the compelling nature of our RASP Secure product lines, this sale also confirms the growing need for high assurance security solutions. The IRS represents an organization with a clearly definable need for such solutions and they have selected RASP Secure Access to meet their growing needs."
